Plagiarism Policy

Kalyani Sishu Barta believes in honesty, originality, and creativity. As a children's journal that celebrates the imagination and voice of young minds, we take plagiarism seriously to ensure that every submission is a genuine effort by the child.

This policy helps us maintain fairness, educational value, and ethical standards while also nurturing children in a safe and encouraging environment.

What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism means copying someone else's words, ideas, stories, poems, or art and presenting them as your own — without giving credit or permission. This includes:

  • Copying from books, the internet, or AI tools (like chatbots or apps).
  • Submitting someone else’s work (siblings, friends, teachers) as your own.
  • Tracing or replicating artwork or images without original changes.
  • Translating someone else's work without permission and claiming it as original.

Even if done by mistake, plagiarism is not allowed. We encourage originality and will help children learn the value of creating their own work.

What We Accept

We accept original works across a wide range of categories:

  • Work that is created completely by the child, with or without adult guidance.
  • Contributions that are inspired by a story, idea, or experiment—but written or drawn in the child’s own words or style.
  • Content where sources (if any) are properly mentioned, e.g., "Inspired by the story of..." or "Based on an experiment from...".

What We Do Not Accept
  • Fully or partially copied text from websites, books, articles, or AI tools.
  • Artwork downloaded or traced directly from online sources.
  • Content written entirely by parents, teachers, or AI applications on behalf of the child.
  • Any work that violates copyright laws or intellectual property rights.

Educational Focus

We understand that children are still learning about what plagiarism means. Instead of punishment, we focus on:

  • Educating children about originality and giving credit.
  • Providing gentle feedback if we detect copied content.
  • Encouraging children to revise and resubmit their own version.

We believe that mistakes are part of the learning process, and our editors are here to guide — not judge.

How We Check for Plagiarism

Our editorial team uses:

  • Manual review of content for style, structure, and uniqueness.
  • Online tools to check for direct copying from internet sources.
  • Common sense and experience in identifying AI- or adult-generated content.

If plagiarism is detected, we may:

  • Return the piece to the parent/guardian with a note explaining the issue.
  • Ask for a revision or clarification.
  • In some cases, decline the submission with an invitation to try again with an original idea.

Declaration by Parents/Guardians

Every submission must include a short declaration by the parent/guardian confirming:

  • The work is original and done by the child.
  • Any help received was limited to guidance or minor editing.
  • No external tools or sources were used without mentioning them.

This declaration builds trust and transparency between us and our young contributors.

Our Belief

At Kalyani Sishu Barta, we believe that every child has their own special spark. Creating something original helps children:

  • Build confidence
  • Think independently
  • Develop creative and ethical values

We are committed to nurturing a space where original ideas are celebrated and plagiarism is gently discouraged through understanding and learning.

Parents, Teachers & Guardians

  • We encourage you to support your child in creating their submission but avoid doing it for them.
  • Please help with scanning, typing (if needed), and submission.
  • We require a parent/guardian declaration form with every entry.

Copyright and Publishing Rights

  • Copyright remains with the child and their guardian.
  • By submitting, you grant non-exclusive publishing rights to Kalyani Sishu Barta for print and digital formats.
  • Reproductions require written permission from the editorial board.
